Methodology
Every detail traces to a named source. If we cannot confirm it, we leave it blank or label it unconfirmed.
What the registry covers
- Licensed childcare programs in Edmonton. We check the provincial file weekly. A program no longer listed there leaves the directory, but its page remains available for one year with a notice.
- Not vacancies. Contact the operator directly.
- Not every fee. The $15/day rate applies to daycare only. Preschool, out-of-school care and the income-tested subsidy are separate.
- Not a measure of quality. We publish no ratings, scores or rankings.
Sources and verification
Licensing and program details. Name, address, phone, capacity, age groups, licence status and $15/day participation come from the Government of Alberta childcare search.
Inspections. History comes from Alberta’s Child Care Information , published quarterly with usage considerations. The licensing and inspection files share no identifier, so we require at least two matching details; a phone number alone is never enough. Any contradiction leaves the record unmatched.
Operators and schools. Opening hours and websites come from operators. School links come from school pages, operator sites or licensed addresses, and each link names its source. A school in the licensed address shows only that the program is located there, not that it serves the school’s students.
Care offered in French
This tag is verified from operator pages or francophone-organisation directories, including FPFA’s RIPE directory, not licensing data. Every tagged program shows the evidence, source, checked date, and whether the information came from the operator or an organisation. A program name or location inside a francophone school is not enough. This is a verified subset: programs without the tag may also offer care in French. Care language remains separate from the website’s display language.
Neighbourhoods and maps. Neighbourhoods are assigned by point-in-polygon against City of Edmonton boundaries. Maps are rendered live by Google; we do not store or re-host the imagery.
Reading inspection history
- Findings are routine and many are remedied quickly. A longer history may therefore contain more findings without indicating a worse program. Read the remedies and dates, not just the total.
- “No findings” means the program was inspected without a finding. “No inspection shown” may mean none appears in the files we hold, a record could not be matched confidently, or two licences share a history that cannot be divided. The program page identifies which situation applies.
- Each quarterly file covers about 18 months. We retain releases and show their combined history , from October 2019 to December 2025. 7719 displayed records are no longer in the current file; they are marked “archived” and link to their release. The September 2021 release could not be downloaded; records appearing only there are absent.
- A program has 30 days to appeal a non-compliance, so a published finding may since have been overturned. The province also warns that records for the same period may change between releases.
Other important limits
Websites. A website is confirmed only when its page shows the program’s phone, address or postal code. A similar name or domain is not enough. Links supported by weaker evidence are labelled “unconfirmed”; without a demonstrable link to the licence, the site is not shown.
Family day home agencies. The displayed address is the agency office, not the home a child would attend. Individual homes and their vacancies appear in no provincial dataset. A listed capacity is agency-wide, and a finding may concern the agency or one of its homes without saying which.
Corrections
If you dispute a finding linked to your program, we take it down first and verify it afterwards. Email corrections@daycareregistry.ca . We withhold it at the next rebuild, usually within a few days, then compare it with the provincial source. If confirmed, it returns with an explanation. No records are currently withheld.
Use the same address for missing or outdated information. Corrections to licensing data must be made with the Government of Alberta; they will appear here after the next import.
Information added by an operator or parent is labelled with its source and date. Parent reports never alter inspections, complaints or quality, which come only from the provincial record. An operator may dispute a parent report, which is then removed first.
